Did you know? #5: Tea in Europe
Monday, June 29, 2009 at 8:38PM In 1560, Portuguese Jesuit Father Jasper de Cruz first came across tea in China and was the first to professionally write about it. Portugal then developed trade routes around four years after de Cruz first tasted tea and shipped it to Europe. At first tea was extremely expensive and considered a treat only the rich could afford. After shipping increased and Europe's affinity for tea grew the price decreased and began to be enjoyed by many classes. From there the rest is history and tea began to flourish throughout Europe.
